Fear and faith are present in our life everyday, we are always in a situation to make decisions, even sometimes with a little thing of what to eat, not to talk about big decision of our life that can make us or break us. Let me start by defining the meaning of faith from the bible (Hebrews 11 vs 1) now faith is the substance of things hoped for,the evidence of things not seen and in this very passage that many believers hold on to and they are rewarded. And now fear is the false evidence appearing real, many people have died of fear than the real sickness or the accident according to research.
The story of Peter in the book of (Matthew 14 vs 27 – 32) this passage shows us fear and faith, when Jesus was walking on the sea and the disciples saw him, they were troubled because they thought they have seen a ghost and the bible said they cried out in fear, interesting, they are followers of Jesus, they have been with Jesus, experience miracles and yet they are scared of ghosts, Jesus knew how vulnerable we can be, he quickly spoke to them before they passed out, reassuring them not to be afraid, and peter is the only one that decided to walk by faith by asking Jesus to confirm if it’s really him and if he can walked on the water as well, many times we are just like peter, we said God I will step out in faith, I just need confirmation that it is you, and God in his mercy said COME just as he told peter, when peter started to walk on the water to go to Jesus, the wind was bad and peter was afraid and at that point he began to sink, that is what happens to us when we entertain fear in the midst of doing exploits in the name of Jesus, as soon as you start to doubt because you are faced with challenges, we will be like peter that steps out in faith and because of fear he started to sink.
Thank God for his mercy that at that point when we cried to him he will rescue us. I am not saying it is so easy to walk by faith, because it is not if we rely on ourselves, because as a human being we would rather stay in our comfort zones where we know how things work. However, to step into unknown, it is a real challenge, you may feel like a baby that needs to depend on his parents for everything but do you know that is exactly what God wants us to do. We can learn a lot from the children, they dont worry about what to eat, wear or drink , exactly as Jesus said (in the book of matthew 6vs25-end) do not worry about your life, what to eat or what to drink nor about your body what you will put on, he goes on to say do not worry about tomorrow for tomorrow will worry about it’s own things…Seek first the kingdom and his righteousness and all these things shall be added to you. What a powerful passage!
I will finish by sharing my testimony, when l first realised my purpose and my vision, I was greatly afraid, I thought I am not good enough for God to use me for such a great vision. Of course you also have people around you that will make sure they discourage you. I was so used to my comfort zone, to step into unknown is a big challenge for me, after many years of struggling with faith, I thank God for his mercy.
I choose to trust God and I stepped out in faith, and God proved himself to be faithful to his promise over my life, every now and then, when l realise what l am doing, just like Peter, I feel like I am about to sink and I will cry out to him. He’s always there to hold my hands and reassure me to carry on. He is my rock and my salvation, as a result of my obedience and trust in Jesus
Time2Shine ministry was given birth to which I am eternally grateful to God.
So you see it is possible, with God all things are possible. If you have a vision from God do not let fear of the unknown stop you. He is waiting for you at the other end just like when he was waiting for Peter, but Peter doubted and he stopped, keep on trusting him, he is always there. Every time you have to do something great and you hear bad news, your first reaction is fear before faith steps in, you might say well you are a firm believer, I thank God for your life, but believe it or not, every human being has a bit of Peter in them, if the doctor told you that you have only three months to live, the first thing that hits you is fear. But if you now allow God to take control you will move from the arena of fear to faith, that is why you have to know Jesus and His word, because that is the only rock you can stand on and you will never fall. Amen.
One of faith’s biggest enemies is your ignorance of God word. I have heard a saying that what you don’t know will not kill you, it is not true when it comes to the word of God, it’s the truth you know that will set you free. So YOU say , how can l strengthen my faith? The bible says, faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (roman 10 vs 17) so lets live in God’s word and surround yourself with people of faith.
